I will say of the Lord, ‘he is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’
Psalm 91:2
EMAIL PRAYER CHAIN
Many have left the telephone Prayer Chain to participate in the email prayer ministry which receives prayer requests instantly as they are needed. They share in all prayer needs that are activated on the Prayer Chain. There are a total of 65 members of this ministry, and it has been a vital resource for urgent needs as well as ongoing supplications which the LORD richly blesses. The coordinator is Becky Stewart.
CIRCLE OF PRAYER
The Circle of Prayer began in February, 1994. Its specific function is to receive prayer requests from the congregation after the worship service each Sunday morning. Prayer Request Cards are placed in the offering plate during the service by the congregation who have specific prayer requests. After the short prayer in the chapel, cards for mailing are signed for that Sunday, and these are mailed the next day. The current members of this group are: Becky Stewart, coordinator, Alberto Albarracin, Cindy Blair, Steve Blair, Lisa Burgess, Ricky Burgess, John Burnett, Susanne Cooper, Katie Drewry, Lauren Kate Drewry, Rick Grier, Jack Griffith, Randy Lambert, Beverly Napier, Billy Napier, Pat Palmer, Dave Shanklin, Harrison Spear, Janis Spear and Johnny Taylor. Sherri Shipp and Gloria Williams are substitutes.
PRAYER IN THE CHAPEL
The chapel stands open for prayer each day for meditation and prayer. This room is just off the Sanctuary and is also used on Sunday mornings by the Circle of Prayer and other small gatherings from time to time.
PRAYER WARRIORS
Prayer Warriors, headed by Monya Hill and Kay Larson, was begun in 1993, and is an effective effort for our children. There are about 90 members who are assigned and pray for around 200 children of FPC, missionary children and others who come to Children’s Choir and KIDS’ Quest on Wednesday afternoons. The effort is equally enjoyable to the children as well as adult members. Unique friendships have developed, and the effective prayer support of our children is valuable to the future of this church and the work of the Lord.
PRAYER ANGELS
Prayer Angels is a ministry formed ten years ago to provide prayer support by the young people of our congregation to older members. It is headed by Jennifer Shipp and Katy Stanley and is made up of children and young people who are each assigned to pray for an older person. Brett and Kimberly Grantham assist with the children. This effort provides opportunities for young children to learn about prayer while encouraging unique and lasting friendships.
MISSION INTERCESSORS
This will be a new ministry to give prayer support and intercession for church planting, missionaries and their families. The EPC denomination is working to begin a prayer network for missionaries within the denomination, and it is hoped that a group of intercessors within our church will be formed to meet monthly to pray for missions using information and requests regularly received by the EPC network and other missionaries supported by FPC. May the Lord bless this new ministry in our church.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
First Presbyterian Church has been sponsoring the National Day of Prayer since 1992. All Christians in the community are encouraged to meet together at our local County Courthouse on the first Thursday in May. This ministry has grown to the extent that other churches and individuals in the community participate in music, worship and prayer on that day.
PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM
The Prayer Ministry Team, led by our Pastor Don Elliott, meets regularly every other month for one hour just before the meeting of committees on Committee Night. Members of the team are Chairman Don Elliott, Susanne Cooper, Brett Grantham, Kimberly Grantham, Monya Hill, Kay Larson, Velma Long, Jennifer Shipp, Sherri Shipp, Becky Stewart, Cindy Vann and Debbie Worsham. The Prayer Ministry Team oversees all prayer efforts at First Presbyterian Church including various other short term prayer events.
A monthly prayer flyer is provided to the congregation entitled, Church Pray! Distributed by Intercessors for America focusing on current matters for prayer that are of interest.
Prayer for our troops with names of members of family and friends stationed overseas and in the armed services are also available on our resource tables.
